Load
testing
To create vast amounts of traffic to stress a device or a network
requires either very expensive lab type traffic generation equipment
or a large base of client machines running some sort of packet
blasting agent. Many users in development or verification environments
need solutions that can tackle this problem in a more elegant
and cost effective manner.
FlameThrower fits perfectly in environments where generating
high loads of traffic from 10 through 1000 Mbps is need to
stress device or application capabilities. In fact, Compuware
has used FlameThrower¡¯s gigabit capabilities to ensure their
full-duplex gigabit-monitoring probe (EcoScope ¢â) is functioning
properly at both a hardware and a software level. They did
this by simply creating a traffic profile in our BitStressor
traffic emulation application and connecting directly to their
probe dual-port NIC. This simple test was created in just
a few minuets and made it possible to test their product under
real-world conditions.
This same application of FlameThrower is valid for transceivers,
PHYs, Cable plant infrastructures, hubs, basic switches, advanced
multi-layer switched, routers, carrier level products with
Ethernet front ends. Virtually any Ethernet type device that
needs to respond to heavy traffic conditions can be stressed
using FlameThrower. Vendors and end-users alike now have an
application to test device level capability and performance.
All this is done from a device no bigger than a VCR with the
capacity to handle up to 40 wire speed 10/100 ports (UTP or
fiber) or 10 wire speed fiber gigabit ports (we provide a
full line of uplink tests as a part of our standard software).
